Where the ZT 250 VSD Sits in the Oil-Free Range<\/h2>\n

The ZT 250 VSD is the air-cooled mid-range machine of the ZR\/ZT 200-355 VSD+ platform, the oil-free line Atlas Copco builds for plants whose demand has outgrown the 110-160 class.<\/p>\n

Two 125 kW drive modules provide the 250 kW of installed power. The air-cooled machines of the line below this range are covered by the ZT 110 VSD<\/a>. The VSD+ control sweeps both of them across a speed window that reaches from 100% down to 11%. The T marks the air-cooled branch: the package rejects its own heat with radial fans, so the ZT 250 VSD installs in halls that have no cooling water main and no duct budget for a water-cooled plant room.<\/p>\n

The letter Z of the ZT 250 VSD marks the oil-free architecture. The compression elements inject no oil into the air stream, so the delivered air carries no added oil and the ZT 250 VSD serves food, pharmaceutical, electronics and textile processes that certify their air supply. The platform shares one design family from 200 to 355 kW, which keeps the service concept, the parts logic and the room layout identical for every machine a plant adds beside it.<\/p>\n

The air-cooled Pack of the platform measures 4417 mm in length, 1754 mm in width and 2150 mm in height, and the rated Pack weight stands at 6560 kg (14462.18 lb). The Full Feature iMD package, which carries the dryer internals inside the same enclosure, reads 7792 kg (17178 lb). One floor bay takes the whole machine, and the fan side needs the free air path that the installation plan of the platform reserves for it.<\/p>\n

Dual NEOS Drives and the Oil-Cooled Motor<\/h2>\n

Two NEOS drive bodies, each with its own 125 kW permanent magnet motor, split the 250 kW of installed power between them. The VSD+ control divides the demand across the two modules and sweeps their speed between 11% and 100%.<\/p>\n

The ZT 250 VSD follows the plant load without the unload and blow-off phases that waste energy on fixed-speed machines. The motors are oil-cooled: the oil circuit that lubricates the drive train also carries the motor heat to the coolers, which lets the motor run in a sealed package without an external fan of its own.<\/p>\n

The split between two modules lowers the mechanical and thermal load of each element at part load, and the Elektronikon controller keeps both drives inside their operating window as the flow follows the demand curve of the plant.<\/p>\n

Air Cooling at 250 Kilowatts<\/h2>\n

At this power class the cooling design decides the installation. The ZT 250 VSD rejects its heat through radial fans that push the cooling air across aluminum-brazed coolers, and the stainless steel precooler and aftercooler handle the compressed air side of the heat exchange. A water separator after the aftercooler clears the condensed moisture, and zero-loss drains evacuate the water without wasting compressed air at any drain point.<\/p>\n

The air path of the package runs the two-stage compression as well: air passes the inlet filter, the first element lifts the pressure to the intermediate level, the intercooler and the moisture separation condition the flow, and the second element brings the air to its final pressure. Because the package takes its cooling air from the room, the installation reserves the fan side for a clear inlet path, and the ZT 250 VSD holds its rated output without a water main, a pump set or a cooling tower.<\/p>\n

The Integrated iMD Dryer in the Air Flow<\/h3>\n

In the Full Feature build the drying function uses the heat of compression that the two-stage process already produces. About 60% of the main flow is cooled in the precooler and aftercooler while the remaining flow regenerates the adsorption drum of the iMD unit, so the dryer adds no purge loss and no separate power feed. The dried air leaves the package at the outlet flange with the dew point already controlled, which removes the external dryer, its piping and its pressure drop from the project.<\/p>\n
