Description

Where the ZT 145 VSD Sits in the Oil-Free Range

The ZT 145 VSD belongs to the ZR/ZT 75-160 VSD+ range, the oil-free line that Atlas Copco builds with dual NEOS drive bodies and a permanent magnet motor in every machine. Two drive modules give the ZT 145 VSD its 145 kW of installed power, and the VSD+ control sweeps them across a wide speed window so the flow follows the demand of the plant without unloaded running.

The platform shares one design from 75 to 160 kW, which keeps the service concept and the parts logic identical for every machine a plant operates beside it. The air-cooled machines one step down in this range are covered by the ZT 110 VSD.

The letter Z marks the oil-free architecture. The compression elements inject no oil into the air stream, so the delivered air carries no added oil and the machine serves food, pharmaceutical, electronics and textile processes that certify their air supply. The T marks the air-cooled branch: the package rejects its own heat with radial fans, so the machine installs in halls that have no cooling water main and no budget for a water-cooled plant room.

Minimum, Effective and Maximum

The rated data of the VSD+ Pack lists a flow band at each of four pressure settings: 4, 7, 9 and 10.4 bar(e). At the minimum setting of 4 bar(e) the ZT 145 VSD produces 79 to 425 l/s (168 to 900 cfm), at the effective setting of 7 bar(e) it produces 79 to 409 l/s (167 to 867 cfm).

At 9 bar(e) the machine delivers 78 to 377 l/s (164 to 798 cfm), and at the maximum of 10.4 bar(e) it still delivers 76 to 353 l/s (161 to 749 cfm).

The rated data of the VSD+ Pack lists the flow band at each of the four settings for the 50 Hz supply.

A network sized at the effective point runs the machine slow and quiet through the night and lets the drives climb as the day load builds.

These four bands come from one machine. The ZT 145 VSD does not change its gearing between the settings; the drive simply moves the two modules across their speed window, and the rated flow follows.

Technical Specifications of the ZT 145 VSD

The figures below are copied from the official ZR/ZT 75-160 VSD+ technical data. Unit performance is measured according to ISO 1217, Annex E, Edition 4 (2009), under the reference conditions of 0% relative humidity, 1 bar absolute inlet pressure and 20°C intake temperature. Free Air Delivery is measured at the effective working pressure.

Rated Data of the VSD+ Pack

The Pack build carries the compressor, the cooling system, the drives and the controls in one air-cooled enclosure of 3135 kg (6912 lb). The four pressure settings of the 50 Hz supply read as follows.

Setting Pressure (bar(e)) FAD (l/s) FAD (cfm)
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, Minimum 4 79-425 168-900
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, Effective 7 79-409 167-867
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, 9 bar setting 9 78-377 164-798
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, Maximum 10.4 76-353 161-749

Installed motor power stands at 145 kW (200 hp) across the settings, and the A-weighted emission sound pressure level at the work station reads 74 dB(A). The value is measured according to ISO 2151:2008 with the sound intensity scanning method of ISO 9614-2 and carries the total uncertainty of +/- 3 dB(A). At that level the air-cooled package stays inside the sound range of a busy industrial hall, which is the trade a plant accepts when it removes the water circuit and the pump house from the project.

Rated Data of the Full Feature iMD Build

The Full Feature build adds the integrated iMD dryer, the heat-of-compression unit that dries the air inside the same enclosure. Because the dryer works with heat the process already produces, the FAD band of the ZT 145 VSD shifts to the ratings below.

Setting Pressure (bar(e)) FAD (l/s) FAD (cfm)
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, Minimum 6 118-425 251-900
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, Effective 7 118-409 250-867
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, 9 bar setting 9 117-377 247-798
ZT 145 VSD+ – 10.4, Maximum 10.4 115-353 244-749

The iMD package of the ZT 145 VSD weighs 8359 lb in the published data, and the installed motor power stays at 145 kW (200 hp) across the settings.

Dimensions and Weight

The 110-160 platform table that shares the footprint with this machine lists the standard enclosure at 3400 x 1660 x 2150 mm with a weight of 3850 kg, and the Full Feature build at 4085 mm in length with a weight of 4250 kg. One floor bay takes the whole machine, and the fan side needs the free air path that the installation plan of the platform reserves for it.

Dual NEOS Drives and the Oil-Cooled Motor

Two NEOS drive bodies, each with its own permanent magnet motor, split the 145 kW of installed power between them. The VSD+ control divides the demand across the two modules and sweeps their speed with the plant load.

The ZT 145 VSD follows the demand curve without the unload and blow-off phases that waste energy on fixed-speed machines. The motors are oil-cooled: the oil circuit that lubricates the drive train also carries the motor heat to the coolers, which lets the motor run in a sealed package without an external fan of its own. The split between two modules lowers the mechanical and thermal load of each element at part load, and the Elektronikon controller keeps both drives inside their operating window.

Air Cooling at 145 Kilowatts

The ZT 145 VSD rejects its heat through radial fans that push cooling air across aluminum-brazed coolers, and the stainless steel precooler and aftercooler handle the compressed air side of the heat exchange. A water separator after the aftercooler clears the condensed moisture, and zero-loss drains evacuate the water without wasting compressed air at any drain point.

The air path runs the oil-free two-stage compression as well: air passes the inlet filter, the first element lifts the pressure to the intermediate level, the intercooler and the moisture separation condition the flow, and the second element brings the air to its final pressure. Because the package takes its cooling air from the room, the installation reserves the fan side for a clear inlet path, and the machine holds its rated output without a water main, a pump set or a cooling tower.

The Integrated iMD Dryer in the Air Flow

In the Full Feature build the drying function uses the heat of compression that the two-stage process already produces. Part of the main flow is cooled in the precooler and aftercooler while the remaining flow regenerates the adsorption drum of the iMD unit, so the dryer adds no purge loss and no separate power feed. The dried air leaves the package at the outlet flange with the dew point already controlled, which removes the external dryer, its piping and its pressure drop from the project.

Class 0 Air Purity for Critical Processes

The ZT 145 VSD is certified to ISO 8573-1 Class 0, the strictest oil quality class of the standard, and the oil-free element design adds no oil to the air at any point of the speed window. Together with the ISO 1217 performance rating and the ISO 9001 manufacturing certificate, the machine carries the documents that audited processes ask for.

Control and Monitoring

The Elektronikon controller of the ZT 145 VSD runs the pressure band, coordinates the two drive modules and supervises the dryer and the cooling system. The display reports the state of each module, and the controller connects to plant systems so a central room can run several machines as one supply group. Logged hours and component states stay readable for the service team, which turns the maintenance of the machine into a planned activity.

Options and Engineered Solutions

The platform options list adapts the machine to the site: sound attenuation packages, control accessories for master-supply networks, and connection sets that prepare the package for the air and condensate lines of the plant. The build of the ZT 145 VSD is selected at order time, and the Pack and Full Feature concepts share the same base design for later plant extensions.

Applications of the ZT 145 VSD

The air-cooled 145 kW step fits plants that need continuous oil-free flow but have no water infrastructure at the installation site: workshops that add a certified-air line, food and beverage halls, tire plants that expand curing capacity and electronics lines that grow in stages. The flow band of 76 to 425 l/s follows the production rhythm, and the 10.4 bar(e) maximum covers high-pressure networks without a booster stage.

The four pressure settings let one ZT 145 VSD serve several lines that run at different pressures, which removes the extra machines a fixed-speed room would need for the same spread.

Where the site wants the dew point controlled inside the supply, the Full Feature iMD build delivers dry air straight from the package. Where a plant later installs a water circuit, the water-cooled machines of the same platform step in with the same layout logic.

Service and Support Around the ZT 145 VSD

Routine service points of the ZT 145 VSD sit behind the service side of the enclosure, and the fluid, filter and separator kits match the shared design of the 75-160 family. Atlas Copco backs the installed base with a global service organization, and the genuine parts of the machine follow the service plan that ships with it.

FAQ

What does the ZT 145 VSD deliver at maximum pressure?

At the maximum setting of 10.4 bar(e) the Pack build produces 76 to 353 l/s (161 to 749 cfm), and the Full Feature iMD build produces 115 to 353 l/s (244 to 749 cfm) from its minimum setting of 6 bar(e).

Is the ZT 145 VSD air-cooled?

Yes. The T in the model name marks the air-cooled branch, and radial fans with aluminum-brazed coolers reject the heat of the package, so the machine needs no cooling water main at the installation site.

How oil-free is the air?

The machine is certified to ISO 8573-1 Class 0, and the oil-free element design adds no oil to the air stream at any speed of the VSD+ control.

What does the Full Feature build add?

The Full Feature build integrates the iMD heat-of-compression dryer inside the same enclosure, so the delivered air leaves the package with the dew point already controlled and no external dryer hardware in the line.

How many pressure settings does the machine cover?

The VSD+ Pack is rated at four settings: 4, 7, 9 and 10.4 bar(e), and the drive moves the two modules across their speed window so the flow follows the demand at each of them.

How loud is the ZT 145 VSD?

The rated emission sound pressure level at the work station is 74 dB(A), measured according to ISO 2151:2008 and ISO 9614-2 with a total uncertainty of +/- 3 dB(A).

1 review for Atlas Copco ZT 145 VSD⁺ (FF) Oil-Free Rotary Screw Air Compressor

  1. Risto Nieminen –

Our workshop runs tools at 7 bar and a lab line at 9 bar, and the ZT 145 VSD covers both from one package without any water work. The drives follow the shift profile down to low load, the integrated dryer keeps the dew point steady, and the 74 dB(A) reading lets the machine stand next to the production floor. Seadweer matched the build in one reply.
